Cross Country Course Design....
While different venues have differing site characteristics to work with, there are some things that I try to accomplish with all course designs.
First of all, the planning needs to work towards a good flow, involving vehicle traffic and parking, stabling, office, vendors, dressage, stadium jumping etc. All appropriate questions for the level of competition should be presented in straight forward ways that will teach and not trick the competitors.
The questions should be significant enough to command their full attention while encouraging success. The tracks should use terrain and natural features in a way to make it comfortable to ride forward around the course.
My emphasis is always on preparing horses and riders for their next competitions. I try to plan for all of this in a way that will allow for construction costs that fit into the fiscal plans of the event or facility.
